Dear Jo, I am from Barwon (currently on maternity leave) and I know it has taken me quite some time, but I just wanted to let you know that even though some time has passed that Dave is still in my and so many peoples thoughts, especially as we near Christmas. He was such a lovely man, warm, funny and with such a cheeky grin. I still remember the Thursday before he went hunting, we were standing outside the staff office at work, and he was looking for a leave form, he couldn't find them and he had much pleasure in telling me it's because my gut was in the way!!! That was our last conversation. We enjoyed a joke together and he was always asking how the next Hawk's supporter was going. Well I'm sorry to say but my baby will be a bombers supporter, but his middle name is David, after a great man. He is greatly missed and deeply respected. Thinking of you and your family.

My memories are David go back a very long time. I have had the pleasure of being part of his teenage years, his young adult years and the years of his being a devoted husband and very loving father. Through out all of this time, he has stayed true to himself and his gentle and nuturing personality has always shone through. We have shared many many happy family holidays together whether it be here or overseas. I am very fortunate to have those memories and the laughter that results from them. Family get togethers with his keen wit and insight into others. Holidays with minimal clothing packed, but of course the speedos were always remembered. Your support and encourgagement to me personally will never be forgotten and just your gentle way of making me see the bigger picture and putting things into perspective have been very much appreciated and will be terribly missed. The short time we spent playing football at Preston I remember the bloke who was friendly, kind and with magnificent foot skills off half back. I used to wish I had your skills. When our sons played football together decades on at Rupertswood, I remember you in your runners outfit and myself kicking the football to each other and as if you were twenty years younger drilling the ball one metre off the ground like you did playing for Preston. We were privileged to know David through our friends Bev and Doug Kellett. David was a true family man, who loved his family dearly. Because of your football committments you were assigned duties to the kitchen door post at Pentridge. I remember that you used to pass the time away sketching horse heads at the back of the movement books. We lost contact for a while after that but then you came to Loddon where I had transferred to . You soon established yourself as a great leader and earned the respect of the majority of staff at that location. What can we ask of a good man when his time is done? That he was strong and true of heart, relied upon. His family's needs were always greater than his own, finding pleasure in their joy. A wicked sense of humour, with sparkling eyes teasing those he loved. Honest, hard workiing and successful in all areas of his life. A good Husband, Father, Son and Brother. Beloved and revered, always there in a time of need. This how he played his part in life. It is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to a good man. Rest now Hub. I'll miss you mate.

Though far and wide we sought you, we could find not where you fell. The Ranges hold you precious, and guard their treasure well. The Wattles bloom above you, the Blue Bells close by, The Brown bees buzz the secret, the wild birds make no reply. Words cannot express my love and respect for you, my little round headed brother, with whom I grew up with doing all the brotherly things, playing marbles, cowboys and indians, cricket and the Upwey Football team grand final. You grew up to a mature strong successful family man, but still with a round head. When we were growing up you would say I was your hero, let me tell you brother, you are mine. Hub I will always have you in my heart, your wit and adventurous spirit will always make me smile when I think of you. Hub, you are a legend in so many ways, and I never shirked a task, I love you. I have known Dave for a lot of years now, although we never worked together, I often saw him around and we knew each other. It is with saddness that we found him missing. I never knew he was a hunter all I knew was he is a fellow Officer. I know he will be remembered and his name would be with the departed on the Honour Roll of the RPOG. Goodbye Dave. Ken Bawden

Dave of all my working years you by far were the most down to earth boss. You were always open fore a chat and l will miss that. We all hoped fore a miricale hopeing you would come back to us you will be missed by so many . You have layed down to rest in the best spot, my thoughts are with you and your family. It's been a while since I knew David at the Upwey Tecoma Football Club. He came to the Club to join his brother Peter. Both great men. I am sadened by the loss of David, and my thoughts go out to his family.

The first voice at the other end of the line after my great loss. A man who really did have his door open, and who more often than not, asked before you had to ask. a man I will always be proud to have worked for and with. My deepest condolences to all of Dave's family.

The work Dave was the man I knew... always the gentleman, loved a laugh. He always asked me how I was going and you knew he meant it. We would always hear him coming down the hall singing some song a blast from the past that would jog our memories back to our youth. He will be sadly missed by all that had the pleasure to work with him. I won't be able to attend the memorial but my thoughts will be with all of Daves family and friends.

Dave always had a twinkle in his eye, and a recollection for the quirky. Each time he was seated at a lower chair, he would say that he felt like Michael Schilberger - most younger people would look quizzical, but I would get it. A couple of things that I know for sure about Dave - he was deeply commited to Jo, he loved Georgia and Caleb, he adored his beloved Hawks, and he was deeply repectful towards women. We wandered around the workplace in shock for days -worrying about Dave. Our thoughts always turned to Jo and the children, because if we were concerned, how must they be feeling. Dave leaves a huge gap here on the Management Team at Barwon, but we are starting to find solace in remembering his strength of charactor, fairness to all, and dedication to a positive and humane living and working environment. My last conversation with Dave was about his much anticipated trip to the High Country. He was so excited about 'going bush'. At the time we were talking about me facilitating a funeral service for a colleagues wife. Dave told me how remarkable it was that I could do it and recalled that he usually broke down in tears when placed in a similar situation. He was tough, compassionate, loyal and respectful - a brilliant combination. Much love to Jo, Georgia and Caleb. Your husband and Dad loved you to bits and will watch over you from Heaven. David, I remember graduating with you in squad 9 of 1985. I remember sharing a beer with you and arguing about Toyota Vs Nissan. I remember you wanted to write a letter to Bob Dylan telling him how much he's influenced your life. I remember talking about the Job, your life and more importantly the love of your family. I will always remember you and it's unfortunate we never caught up for that cold frothy.
