I have some words regarding Brinkley's 15 years as host of ABC's "This Week" on Sunday mornings. He was quite a Sunday interviewer in his own right. He could ask hard questions, but never in an outburst. He had a great sense of humor, especially at the end of each broadcast where he would give a "homily", referring to his end-of-the-show commentaries. The one about IRS planning to collect taxes in the wake of a nuclear war (from 1989, by the way, a year before I was born.) was interesting, and quite funny too. There's another one (I believe this was from 1994-95) which was REALLY funny, this time about a man who learned his wife for two years was the same gender as he was! LOL Whoever heard of a woman lathering up her face and shaving? I'm sure the man was really crazy!!!!!! I would consider his commentaries a piece of entertainment, largely because a lot were just silly. :-D Don't forget the classic roundtable: George Will, Cokie Roberts, and Sam Donaldson! Brinkley reduced his role on the show in November 1996, continuing to do his commentaries until 1997, when he retired from TV news after 54 years. (His career spanned virtually the whole history of broadcast news, lasting through the information age) Most of all, David Brinkley was a patriot.
