I met Bruce for the first time whilst he was helping Mission Australia to produce a DVD and bequest booklet. He had kindly agreed to be part of it as he had supported us for many years, wanted to give something back and thought we did good work. We were chatting and he casually remarked that he needed to start his kidney dialysis but wasn't keen on the idea. He was a lovely man, so warm, caring and funny and although we only spent a few weeks during the production of the material, I will always remember him fondly. Pat Brennan, Mission Australia

Thank you, Bruce, for being a friend. You touched so many people with your kindness and generosity. You organised a great service for yourself. Ian Pearson presided it over it with warmth that comes from a true friend. Ian delivered a great eulogy of your life, including the trials and tribulations of overcoming bureaucracy to be known as "J Bruce Thomson". Jenni regaled us with great stories of larrikan antics on roller-blades and wearing reindeer antlers with flashing lights at Christmas; a side of you few of us knew. Shannon, from Simplicity Funerals was touched as she told me of how upset Mission Australia, JDRF and Hep C Council were when she told them you had gone. All of them offered Shannon a glowing exultation of that kindness and generosity I spoke of earlier. Apologies Bruce - Shannon was more efficient than me and she contacted them for donation envelopes about a day before Ian or I broke the news. David, Kate, Brenton, Holly and Riley came up from Wadonga and David spoke his part very well. Michael and I were proud to have been asked to participate and, I hope, executed our roles with dignity and respect, as you would have expected! My boys, true to their word, attended as well and were very well behaved, both of them shedding tears at the prospect of never again seeing you in your mortal coil. They weren't alone. Afterwards, Ian and Jenny, Ian Johnstone and his family, Jenni and Simon and their wonderful kids, mum and my boys and Scott had lunch and a few drinks in your honour at a hotel in the Rocks. It was a beautiful spring day and you would have enjoyed it. My warmest and fondest. Bill. Rest In Peace good friend.
