What a character Alan was. He hired me off the street at Radio 2KY in 1975 as a copywriter for a 6-week stint. On the last day, the news reader quit. Alan poked his head around the door of my office and said, "Can you read news?" "Sure." So I was installed as newsreader. Not long after, I was doing the drive shift, and a month or two later, the breakfast shift. Alan and I got along like a house on fire. He was a great bloke, and in those days, a wonderful father figure as well. Thanks for everything, Alan.
