My clearest memories and impressions of Aileen are about her love for gardening, family history, and words which told of reminiscing - not in a sad or sentimental way, but words which captured a place or event or triggered a connection between her, her family and the world around her. Her garden in Castlemaine was always a work in progress, responsive to the seasons and to visitors bringing plant clippings; a lovely, interesting environment. If computers had been available a few decades earlier I don't doubt she'd have established several world records for the extent and accuracy of her family history research! I always think of Aileen as a person who combined the qualities of practicality and organisation with a heart felt and kind regard for people, especially her family, no matter their circumstance. She weathered the storms of grieving and kept those lost close to her heart. A marvelous woman who cared for many and was cared for in her later years by daughters and sons.
