Aiki and I met at university and have been friends ever since. In those days we shared much fun and laughter - as well as the usual worries at exam time. We had our children roughly 18 months apart - first Leif, then my Brendan, Heli and my Mitchell. We spent much time together with our kids at picnics and parties. Aiki paid me the honour of making me one of Heli's God Parents, giving me a special relationship with the family. Later we supported each other through the trying time of parents with dementia. We helped each other cope with our Sunday visits and phone calls - we tried to cry with each other rather than in front of our kids. A very special bond. So much more I could say!The summer group trip Aiki organised at Thredbo where we all walked to the top, including kids as young as 5 - we had a great time, of course. Our small group camping trip to Central Australia - Aiki was given the award as friendliest camper. No surprise, that! Such a special friend - I will miss her forever and still don't believe that such a strong lady, in all ways, is not with us. But she has left such a strong legacy through her children and grandchildren as well as her many friends that her influence will remain enormous!

My memories of my academic daughter, Aiki ,are mainly of her kindness, generosity and her great sense of fun. An example of her kindness was when, back in 2003, I was recovering at home after major surgery. I was in bed watching TV when suddenly Aiki appeared in my bedroom. She had come down to Canberra from Sydney to look after me for 3 days. Another memory is when I was in my hotel room in Hanoi, packing for the next stage of my Vietnam holiday. I had the TV tuned to the only English language program I could find but not really watching it as I packed. Suddenly, while I was in the bathroom, I heard a very familiar voice and, not really believing what I was hearing, hurried to the TV and there was Aiki being interviewed on Montague Island where she was doing some volunteer work. So unbelievable! I miss you so much, Aiki! Astrid

You were such a wonderful person - always happy, warm-hearted and with open arms to everyone. Even the short time we had together, you gave me the feeling of beeing part of your familie since ever. Its so hard to let you go but this is an other lesson to learn for me in life. I will always remember you and the great moments we shared! Thanks so much ... Marco from Austria

We loved Aiki. Never have we known anyone with so many friends who cared so much for Aiki. Such a warm. caring yet easy going lady. It was a priviledge to have shared some of her 66 years. Never in around twelve years have we heard her complain about anything. Especially her illness, she had a way of making everyone around her feel better even though she had good reason to have many bad moments. Love you Aiki

My precious mum - you are my best friend, my rock and the light in my life. I miss you so terribly already but know you are always with me. I can't believe this is real and the prospect of life without you makes my heart ache. I love you so much and am so proud of you. I am totally blessed to have had you as my mum and pray that you are happy and at peace. Until we meet again, goodnight my angel. I will love you forever xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Chookie
