I used to study to excess at UNSW from 1962 to 1964. However this was not reflected in good results. I think now I would have got much better results if I had gone to bed at 8:30 every night and thereby had a fresh mind able to take an interest in the lectures. As it was, I often very tired during the day, and went to sleep in some of Mrs Nikov's lectures in 1962. But evidently she did not think badly of me for it, because I was doing second maths in 1963 and Mrs Nikov stopped me in passing and asked me if I would tutor a group of first years. This was an unofficial tutoring position. In 1964 she stopped me again and asked me would I do the tutoring again. I am sorry to say that I told her I was too busy. I was very busy, but if I had the chance again I would have cancelled my enrolment in two out of 4 subjects, in order to give me plenty of free time where I could have responded favourably to her request. The fact that she invited me to tutor in 1963 and again the next year, was an act of extreme encouragement to me, which I will always much appreciate.

Like everybody who spent time at 6 Bell St, I have many memories of lively conversations around the table. Aci knew lots of people,so there was never a shortage of stories. She herself had many talents, as everyone who knew her knew. Among the more unusual was her ability to read handwriting and 'see' the person behind it. Another talent was her ability to rescue people in trouble. She did this for years, showing great interest in individual lives.
