About

history

Oscar Carmelo Sanchez (36), who played for some of the most important Bolivian teams, died at 14.30 (local time) of a kidney cancer.

A wake for Sanchez will be held at The Strongest's premises; this is the last team he played for, coached it the last season.

Last March, Sanchez got his left kidney removed in order to know what kind of tumor he had; as a result, Sanchez suffered from an accute anemia, which forced him to retire from sports activity.

Sanchez played as defender for Bolivia in USA 1994 World Cup; he was the captain of the national team several times, in addition to playing for two of the most important teams in Bolivia, The Strongest and Bolivar.

During the 1990's, Sanchez played in Argentina; he played for Independiente, then coached by Cesar Luis Menotti, and Gimnasia y Esgrima Jujuy.
