i have lots of memories of Jess.. one night in vidor we had a cpr and worked it completely in the dark and fighting off little dogs running around. when we got the guy loaded into the truck, we both had so much dog hair on us, we could've made another whole dog!!! gross! we got the guy back too! i miss her coming over to the house and calling me about her calls she had the day before. Jess was a great person and a great friend. She was an excellent medic even though she second guessed herself all the time. i luv ya girl....
I think it was the last night half we worked together. I worked a 24 the day before, then picked up the second half of her shift the next day. I'd had to switch days because of school. She was going to try to get Derry to switch days so we could stay partners both days, but then the Beaumont thing came up. We were texting that morning like usual and I said something that really made her mad. I wasn't sure what it was that I had said to set her off, but she was definitely mad. I went back to the station after class to take a nap and she was still really, really mad. Apparently, I had hit a nerve about losing friends when you change jobs. She didn't speak to me until our first call that night. We were on the way to the hospital when I leaned up to the front to make fun of the student for putting our patient on the monitor (he cut his fingers) and it seemed to break the ice.
There were two bedrooms at that station. Our first shift out there we were in separate rooms, but it got annoying trying to carry on a conversation from across the hallway so I started sleeping in the same room. Right before she was quitting, they were getting the station ready for the new helicopter crew. They had taken the room we were used to sleeping in and were setting it up for the new crew and we weren't supposed to sleep in there anymore.
We both had a weird issue about sleeping in the same room with people we didn't know, and that student was WEIRD. We decided to pull the mattresses off the beds in the room we used to sleep in and put them next to each other on the floor. We had a really good, really long talk that night.
At one point, we could hear a car pull up next to the bedroom and people outside. Both being retards, we thought it was the boss man come to check on something and were convinced we were gonna be in trouble. We grabbed our bedding off the mattresses and started throwing the mattresses back on the bunk bed. We couldn't get the mattress on the bottom bunk right for some reason. I was crouched down trying to move it into the right spot and turned just in time to have Jessica's butt in my face. Thank God she didn't have gas at the moment! We grabbed all of our stuff and went running into the other room, laughing the whole time. That's when we realized it was just Derry and Corey, coming back from the airport from the PHI training. I guess the names Beavis and Butthead really were appropriate...couple of retards!
Jessica always loved Colorado. We spent our anniversary in Denver then to Colorado Springs then to Durango then to Silverton. She wanted to play in the snow so we decided to take a trip to Pike's Peak. Unfortunately, the police were not allowing anyone up to the top, so we got out and played in the little bit of snow that was on the side of the road. It was kind of sad in a way, but she really made the best out of it. We made a little snow man and wrote "Happy Anniversary" in the snow. I will never forget it.
