The popular interpretation constitutional guarantee of the right to carry weapons is one that is so firmly entrenched within American culture that I don't think gun control will ever be effectively implemented. The pro-gun lobby is extremely active and strong within the political parties. Clearly the majority of voting Americans want this level of access to weapons.
The legislative process also supports the right of the individual to protect themselves and their property with deadly force.
I think it will be a long time before there comes a shift in attitude about guns.
