QOTD: What does Día de los Muertos Mean to You?

Marnie Williams (Oct 31, 2007)

Día de los Muertos is a holiday celebrated in Mexico, in the Mexican immigrant community living in the United States, in Brazil and other parts of Latin America and the Philipines. The Mexican celebration occurs on November 1 (All Saints' Day) and November 2 (All Souls' Day). November 1 is generally reserved for celebrating infants while Nov 2 is a day for celebrating adults. What does Día de los Muertos mean to you? How do you celebrate it?

To me, it means I get a chance to hangout with my friend's family and feast like crazy. With my family being so far away, it is great to have a big surrogate family where I live. Being around 15 kids is so grounding and I am so grateful to be taken in and welcomed as if I am family.
