A Great Friend Lost

University of Oregon football player, 19-year-old Todd Doxey, has died after the local Mckenzie River exhausted him to death.

Todd Doxey reportedly died after jumping off of a bridge at McKenzie River. He was transported to a local hospital, where he died.

Doxey was swimming across the river current towards a boat ramp when he began to struggle. He was fighting to keep his head above the water, according to eye-witnesses, and was taken out of the water by a fisherman.

Doxey, who was born in San Diego, was a redshirt freshman who's position on the football team was rover.

My Memory

Added Aug 15, 2008 By EMF

I am a volunteer assistant basketball coach for El Camino High School. We play in a lot of basketball tournaments with Hoover High School. I mentor some El Camino kids and got to know a group of Hoover High kids. Todd, Jaydee, Omar, and Joe Watson was a group that I had a pleasure of working with and getting to know. The blurry pictures were from a Laker game that Mychal Thompson, former player and announcer took the time out to talk to us and take pictures with us. Mychal was extremely impressed by this group of young men. Aside from this game, I took Todd and his friends to a Charger game, Dodger game, and had him over my house. I only knew Todd for a few years, but what a fine, young, cordial, and humble mature man he turned out to be. Todd wasn't perfect, none of us are, but he was always trying to do the right thing. I haven't mourned for someone this much since my dad passed away 5 years ago, Todd was that special. It has been over a month since Todd passed on, the Good Lord is blessed to have him now

My Memory

Todd, i remember you volunteering last year in my third grade classroom at Rosa Parks. You were such a bright light. You inspired the children to do well in school. I was so sorry to hear from your advisor, Mardell, of your untimely death. My heart goes out to your family. I pray some day they will be able to find a special place in their hearts to tuck you where it no longer hurts.
